About Us

Franz Ambros Alexander founded the Alexander musical instrument factory in Mainz/Germany in 1782. The reigns of the company were handed down from father to son throughout the centuries until today. In the 1970's and 1980's, the brothers Anton and Hans Alexander were at the helm.

After the Tschernobyl nuclear accident in 1986, Hans' and his family relocated to Australia. In 1989 the business Alexander Australia was established. For the first few years their main business was the import and distribution of the famous Alexander French Horns. Soon other European musical instrument manufacturers entrusted Alexander Australia with the wholesale representation of their companies in Australia.

Today, Alexander Australia distributes Alexander French Horns to musicians in Australia through four stockists in the major centres. There you can try out from a selection and make your choice. Outside Australia we export direct to musicians.

In 2007, Alexander Australia was purchased by their existing General Manager, Rosemary Gibbes, some years after Hans' passing. Its customers include Alexander French Horn specialists, the most distinguished violinmakers and the best Music Shops of Australia. As a specialist wholesaler Alexander Australia focuses on quality musical instruments and accessories from Europe.
